Paging Doctor You!

Continuing our exploration of self-care from our last blog article, today I want to pass on to you esoteric knowledge from the great minds of the past and present. Not only can this information help keep your body in tip-top condition so you can fully enjoy life, but it can save you tons of money as you avoid costly medical consultations and treatments!

Our post Paging Doctor Who? explored some very practical and common sense ways to take charge of our health. Now I want to present some suggestions of a metaphysical nature that will amplify your ability to be your own physician.

Get on board our time machine with us now as we journey back once again to ancient, classical Greece and hear the voice of Socrates who is considered a founder of Western Philosophy.

“The Mind is everything. What you think, you become.”

Wow, the ancient Greeks really knew how to make a soundbite! Socrates is telling us that our consciousness determines who we become!

That statement alone would be cause for much contemplation, but then you have Plato, the student of Socrates amplifying the thought with this little stick of mind-dynamite.

“Reality is created by the mind. We can change our reality by changing our mind. “

Plato expounds further on the topic of conscious creation by telling us the reality we experience is the product of our thoughts, and changing our thoughts will change our reality; and this of course would include our physical health.

Now let’s set the transport chronometer for the late 19th century and visit the “Father of American Psychology” philosopher Dr. William James and hear his take on the subject.

“Believe, and your belief will create the fact.”

William James, expands our understanding of the mind/reality creation process by pinpointing our beliefs as the primary catalyst in the process.

As regards our health and well-being, best-selling author Louise Hay, who gave us the books “You Can Heal Your Life” and “The Power is Within You” (among many others) makes the following statement:

“The body, like everything else in life, is a mirror of our inner thoughts and beliefs. Every cell within your body responds to every single thought you think and every word you speak. “

Speaking from personal experience, I have found this to be absolutely true. When I stopped making negative confessions about my health, my incidence of illness evaporated. I haven’t had a cold or the flu for over a decade. Now my belief and confession is “I don’t get colds or the flu” because that has become my reality.

Recently I wanted to lose some excess weight around the belly. I cut out some low nutrition carbs from my diet and imposed some portion control on my meals. At first this left me occasionally feeling hungry, but I spoke to my cells thusly; “You guys hungry? Eat some belly fat.” Today, a couple of months later I have lost 20 pounds and now I’m talking to my skin saying; “It would be nice if you skin cells could tighten up a bit. Let’s reduce the volume of skin around the middle area.” I’ve noticed each morning when I wake up my skin is a little tighter in that area.

The long held scientific paradigm is that our DNA is static and determines our physicality. Basically you’re stuck with what you get from your parents and ancestors. However, Epigenetics, a new theory championed by Cellular Biologist Dr. Bruce Lipton, PhD, proposes that our DNA is not static but rather is activated and programmed by our beliefs.

“A person’s perception, not genetic programming, is what spurs all action in the body: It’s actually our beliefs that select our genes that select our behavior…Perception is awareness shaped by belief. Beliefs ‘control’ perception. Rewrite beliefs and you rewrite perception. Rewrite perception and you rewrite genes and behavior…I am free to change how I respond to the world, so as I change the way I see the world I change my genetic expression. We are not victims of our genes. We are masters of our genetics.”

So here again, we have emerging science supporting the concept that we are what we believe, and that by changing what we believe, we can change who we are- not only in mind, but in body. The implications of this are immense! Are all the physical limitations we experience only the product of our beliefs? Can we conquer all disease by conquering the thoughts that promote and allow it?

I believe everything around us is being affected by our frequency and level of consciousness. The higher our existential density, the more we are controlling our reality. This also activates our DNA which is designed to mirror our conscious beliefs. We are not slaves to our genes, consciousness rules over them! Therefore, to me it logically follows that our mindset can make us impervious to infection, hereditary illness and even genetic disorders!

When I was in my mid-thirties and confronted with debilitating knee pain, I discovered not only the ability to ask my body what was wrong, but also the ability to self-heal through the mind/body/energy connection. Since then, I only go to the (Naturopathic) doctor for occasional check-ups. For the most part, I act as my own physician on the rare occasion I suffer the symptoms of illness or injury. These days, my philosophy and advice to you is:

“Life was meant to be enjoyed and not merely endured.”
