As we grow up in this chaotic Planet Earth reality, we all struggle to make sense of the contradictions between what we’re taught are virtues, and the way the world actually works. Children are especially adept at seeing and pointing out hypocrisy and inconsistencies much to the annoyance of parents and teachers who try to give them survival skills that will enable them to navigate the sea of moral ambiguity they will encounter. As a result, we all create zones made up of beliefs and fantasies that give us comfort about the world around us. By this I don’t mean to say that all beliefs are fantasies, but rather that we mix fantasies with our beliefs to give us comfort, allow us to sleep at night and function in the insane asylum of modern society we live in.

One of these fantasies is that our governments (or at least the political party we align with) are good and exist to protect us and promote our welfare; that they look out for us and are champions of the common people. We gravitate to and support that politician and/or party that speaks to our sense of what is right, just and fair because we want to believe they actually care about the plight of the common person and are not just trying to get elected to take advantage of the numerous opportunities they will have to sell their influence and vote to the highest bidder. In short, we support the platform that best appeals to our self-interest by reinforcing our comfort zone with the words we want to hear. As I’m writing this, I’m hearing the pop song lyrics “Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies” in my head.

Have you ever wondered why it is that Earth humans have organized our world so that we have to suffer pecuniary extortion to live on our own planet? Why are we subject to a vast web of laws and regulations to keep us living in certain ways that benefit others rather than ourselves and our communities? If we define Earthlings as every creature who lives on the planet, no other on land or in the sea has done this. The non-human animal species are all organized to harvest the bounty of the Earth freely and without cost. They follow natural law that dictates they all protect and promote the welfare of their kind.

While we’re wondering and questioning, perhaps we should wonder about the way our modern governments are structured. Why have we chosen to subjugate ourselves to “Top Down” government whereby a few are chosen to rule over a vast multitude? Furthermore, why have we allowed them to vote and approve their own pay-raises and profit from the legislation they are privy too? This has never proven to be in the best interest of the average person. The few at the top, more often than not, fall to the temptation to enrich themselves at the expense of their constituents. How much more so in our modern age where the Military-Industrial Complex has vast sums of money to throw at elected officials to keep them voting in ways that make the MIC even more powerful and able to influence government. (In case you’re wondering, yes I include Big Pharma in the MIC).

I think it’s high time we, the people of Earth take back our delegated power and reinvent government so that it better serves the citizens. The first step is for us all to re-embrace basic spiritual principles. We must all agree on a prime virtue of respecting and promoting the well being of our fellow human beings. This begins with all the people around us- those we have actual contact with. Next, we can no longer tolerate those of the political class who act as parasites on the population. They must be replaced with those who actually desire to serve those they represent. Citizens must be granted relief from the massive tax burdens they struggle under and that are made necessary by the extremely bloated State and Federal governments.

I propose governing authority should be reversed with the adoption of the *Step-Council model. Authority should be concentrated at the local level regarding anything that affects the local community. Each community should form a council that is open to anyone residing in the community who wants to volunteer to serve. This should be pure service, and anyone discovered to be working to enrich themselves at the expense of other members of the community should be ejected and barred from the council in perpetuity.

This council should debate ordinance propositions, then vote on and adopt the regulations/taxation that will govern the citizens who live there including the management and sale of any local resources that might be sought after by those outside their community. They would be responsible for adjudicating all local disputes, and punishment for infractions upon the community adopted laws. All law enforcement officers would be elected by the local citizenry from the local citizenry and serve only as long as the local citizenry approves of their conduct. If there is an impasse concerning an issue the local council is debating, or if it is seen to affect communities beyond the local population, it could be referred up to a regional council who would only take up the matter if requested by one or more local councils.

*Thomas Jefferson was never a fan of the Federal Government. His vision for governance was similar to the Step-Council Model.

Regional councils would follow the same pattern of being staffed by volunteers from the region. They would take up and seek to resolve issues referred to them by local councils that affect one or more communities or when local councils reach an impasse- but only when requested to do so. They would facilitate and negotiate trade agreements between local communities. If local councils refer a matter to a regional council, they would agree to abide by their decision. Regional councils would have no authority to create regional police as this matter is handled at the local level. Nor would they have the need or authority to tax local communities as all matters of public utilities and services would be handled at the local level. Local communities would be asked to donate labor and materials to construct offices and meetings halls for regional government volunteers to work from. Reiterating, larger (geographically) councils would have no authority to legislate except when asked to by councils representing smaller areas.

After Regional Councils there could be State or Provincial Councils all the way up to the Federal and even Planetary level. Each council would only be authorized to debate and recommend solutions for issues that were referred to it by smaller (geographically) councils. They would have no authority to legislate regulations that were not adopted at the local level or referred to them for resolution because they involved issues that were of consequence to multiple communities, regions, provinces or nations. Their primary function would be to promote the welfare and prosperity of the entire citizenry within their jurisdiction. Even the largest council would be staffed by volunteers with no ability to impose taxes, or regulate communities, regions, provinces or nations unless they were requested to do so by smaller councils. All National Councils would have no authority to declare war, but rather would agree to have disputes settled by the Planetary Council who, like the smaller councils, would have no authority except to debate and arbitrate disputes that were sent to them by National Councils.

I want you to think right now about how little taxation there would be with this model. No ridiculous bloated government, no military, no federal police agencies and no 3 letter spy agencies. The beneficiaries of prosperity would be the citizens and not some greedy elected (or appointed) official.

If this model of cooperative step-government could also be adopted by large corporations, where each employee is also a share-holder and beneficiary of the companies success, think of the prosperity this would bring to the majority of the population rather than a few fat-cats in management and share-holder positions.

I know many of you might be wondering, how do we move from the parasitic governments we have today to this Step-Council model? Wouldn’t it be dangerous for a nation to do this unilaterally? I agree, this is the tricky part. Unless the whole world has a spiritual awakening and adopts the concept of respecting and promoting the welfare of our fellow human beings, there will always be some greedy politician or nation who will seek to conquer a peaceful and prosperous citizenry.

That’s why I began with the premise that the root cause of all our problems is spiritual in nature and not political. That’s also why I concentrate my efforts on expanding the consciousness of myself and my fellow human beings. I’ve seen how this enlargement of awareness leads to an expansion of empathy and a higher existential vibration. This in turn leads to an epiphany regarding our Oneness as expressions of Source energy. It’s only when we understand that the other is also us and conduct our lives accordingly that cooperation to build a new, better world is possible. In the meantime we must do the best we can to elect the best, most enlightened public servants available to us within the systems we have.

The good news is there’s never been a better time for the population of Earth to make the shift to higher consciousness. Many people have been jarred outside their comfort zone by a realization that our current forms of government attract people (mostly) of limited consciousness and low vibration who seek power for personal benefit. We, the people, are the ones who need to change this by first changing ourselves. Only when we’re ready to become better human beings can we expect better government. It’s time we fully embrace the “better angels of our nature” and allow the illusions and delusions of our comfort zones to be replaced by actual kindness and compassion for our fellow Earthlings and neighbors as opposed to high minded rhetoric that mollifies our own guilty consciences but doesn’t address the root cause of our societal divisions. Let’s all dedicate ourselves to being the best version of ourselves to every person in every situation we encounter. A new reality is possible but we must create it by the power of our intentions and actions!
